Australian Made Adult DVD Market is Untapped

Adult DVD

The report concludes this section of it's analysis by suggesting that the market for domestically produces adult DVDs is largely untapped which seems to be the case and is something of an anomaly given the level of consumer spending within Australia. Whilst the US is something of a lone giant in the adult entertainment industry, it is perhaps useful to compare the Australian market with that of the UK. There is a parallel between the embryonic domestic market and the much more mature production industry in the UK in that the largest and most successful studios are centred firmly on the "amateur" genre in the same way as both Abby Winters and Rosie Aussie Couples.

The largest UK influence, pioneer and champion of the amateur genre is undoubtedly Ben Dover who's "gonzo" style of shooting won many fans who could more directly relate to the comfortably domestic sexual exploits of Ben and his colleagues than the clinical coldness and perfection of glossy, high end studio productions. Although totally different in format, this type of made at home in familiar surroundings style of production is echoed by Abby Winters although the focus is firmly on solo, pairs or groups of girls and does not involve either male performers or participation of the cameraman or camera crew.

An additional aspect of Australian adult DVD production that was considered by the report and presented to the Committee was the question of whether a move to this type of "cultural production" should be pursued domestically because of the harm or negative impact such productions could have on society as a whole. This is a very difficult and controversial question that has been investigated by numerous studies in a number of countries. The report does not seek to conclusively provide answers and states that from the evidence examined it is clear there is no simple, clear or directly attributable link between sexual violence and pornography. The evidence provided by studies in other countries is a best inconstant and often simply contradictory so is a question that will be continued to be asked for many years to come.
